Pupils – What you need to know

We are looking forward to welcoming back the children from Annfield Plain Infant School.  A virus called Coronavirus has meant that we have had to stay home to stay safe.  To help explain what the virus is and why we have had to stay at home click on the link to watch the Playmobil Coronavirus video.

Your teachers have been working really hard to get school ready for you to return.  Your grown up might like to share this story with you, it’s all about what it will be like at school when you come back.

Back to school after Coronavirus

What happens when you arrive at school?

When you arrive at school you will see yellow lines painted on the path.  These lines help to keep everyone at a safe distance from each other.

Around school you will also see signs that will remind you to keep a safe distance from others.

What will happen in school?

When you come into school you will be asked to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds.  To help you can sing the ‘Happy Birthday’ song twice.

You will also be asked to wash your hands if you have been outside or you have sneezed or blown your nose.

If you bring a packed lunch to school it will be wiped down by a member of staff.  At lunchtime you might eat your lunch in the classroom or in the dining hall.  If you have a hot meal some of you might eat it in the dining hall but some children will have their meal delivered to them in the classroom, from the school kitchen by members of staff.

What will my classroom be like?

When you come back to school the school day might feel a little bit different for a while.  You might not go into the hall, visit other parts of the school building or play with your friends from other classes.  This will just be for a while so that we can all get used to being back at school.  For now, your year group will be like our own little bubble.  We can learn and have fun inside our bubble.

When you enter your classroom you will notice that it looks a little bit different.  This is because we’ve had to take out some of the furniture so it is safer for us to work in there. You will see that the tables are more spaced out and this is because we have to keep a safe distance from other people.  But don’t worry you can still talk to your friends and teachers.

You might also notice that lots of toys and books are missing too – this just makes the classroom easier to clean.  Don’t worry, you will still be able to share stories with your teachers and there will be lots for you to do.  We just need to make sure we clean them afterwards.

What happens if I hurt myself or feel poorly at school?

If you hurt yourself or feel ill when you are at school, you need to tell an adult.  If you need some first aid, they will be able to help you right where you are or if they can’t they will ask another adult in school for help.  The same will happen if you feel poorly.  We might have to ring your grown ups at home and ask them to come and collect you.  While you are waiting for them to arrive you will have to wait in a room with a teacher until you are picked up.  You might have to stay off school for a while until you are well enough to come back.

When the adults in school help you, they might have to put on special protective clothing  (you might have heard it called PPE) so they can keep you and themselves safe while they help you.  You might think they look funny or a bit scary – it’s ok to think that – just remember it’s just one of the adults you know!
